“French Finance Maestro Urges Budget Boost for Post-Pandemic Recovery

In a bid to fast-track France’s financial recovery from the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and energy woes, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire is rallying lawmakers to inject extra savings into the 2024 budget.

Just weeks after unveiling a hefty €16 billion ($16.9 billion) savings proposal, Le Maire is now challenging parliament to dig deeper, seeking an additional €1 billion.

Speaking on Sud Radio, Le Maire highlighted the fiscal challenge, emphasizing the need for France to convey a message of fiscal responsibility. “Public finances are the most challenging aspect. It would be fantastic if France could signal that we are capable of enhancing the budget draft, not by splurging more but by squeezing out extra savings.”
